The compressor choice is simple: match the vehicle’s voltage. The installation deserves more thought. Confirm tool demand, charging-system capacity, cable sizing, air storage and duty cycle before the truck goes to work.
Is Voltair the right fit?
Voltair is a practical fit when a work vehicle needs dependable compressed air for service, towing or roadside tasks but does not need the airflow of a large engine-driven or hydraulic rotary-screw system. It uses the vehicle’s DC electrical system and pairs with application-sized air storage.
Four checks make the choice
Voltage determines the model. The other three checks determine whether Voltair is the right system and what the installation needs.
Choose 12V for a 12-volt vehicle system and 24V for a 24-volt system. Do not select voltage by preference.
Compare every tool’s CFM at working PSI with the compressor output and note how long the tool runs.
Verify alternator output, battery condition, available current, cable length, conductor size and circuit protection.
Select a receiver for the duty pattern, recovery time and available mounting space; include drainage and safe mounting.
One air package, two electrical systems
Both current Voltair configurations are rated at 6 CFM and 150 PSI. Match the model to the vehicle, then engineer the electrical and air-storage system around the application.
The starting point for most light- and medium-duty North American service vehicles. Confirm alternator reserve and high-current wiring before installation.
Built for vehicles with a native 24-volt electrical architecture. Use the same air-demand and receiver-sizing process, with 24V-specific wiring and protection.
| Model | Vehicle system | Rated air | Duty cycle | Useful starting point when… |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voltair 12 Volt | 12 VDC | 6 CFM / 150 PSI | 80% | The vehicle has a native 12V electrical system and enough charging capacity. |
| Voltair 24 Volt | 24 VDC | 6 CFM / 150 PSI | 80% | The vehicle has a native 24V electrical system and enough charging capacity. |
Confirm current product specifications, supplied accessories, electrical requirements and receiver recommendations with Airtek before ordering. Never connect a compressor to a vehicle voltage it is not designed for.
The compressor is only one part of the installation
A good installation protects the vehicle, lets the compressor recover properly and makes stored air useful at the point of work.
Verify alternator output at idle and working speed, battery health and the electrical loads already on the vehicle.
Alternator • Battery • Load auditUse correctly sized conductors, short practical cable runs, secure terminations and appropriate over-current protection.
Cable • Breaker • Ground pathStorage supports short bursts and reduces rapid cycling, but it does not increase the compressor’s continuous 6 CFM output.
Capacity • Mounting • DrainageCheck consumption at working pressure. High-demand tools may only be suitable for short bursts, even with a larger receiver.
Flow • Pressure • Run timeReliable air starts with a sound electrical installation
Bring these details to Airtek before ordering. They affect compatibility, recovery time, cable sizing, receiver selection and long-term reliability.
Common buying questions
Match the compressor to the vehicle’s native electrical system: 12V for a 12-volt vehicle and 24V for a 24-volt vehicle. Airtek can verify compatibility and installation requirements.
It means the compressor requires off-time within the operating period rather than running continuously. Under rated conditions, think roughly 50 minutes of operation in an hour, with time available for cooling. Ambient temperature and installation airflow still matter.
A larger receiver can support a longer short-duration burst and reduce cycling, but it does not increase continuous compressor output. If the tool consumes more than 6 CFM, pressure will eventually fall until the tool stops or the receiver recovers.
Yes. Airtek can help plan the electrical and air-storage system, install the compressor and support ongoing service and parts needs from its Edmonton facility.
